A rail only works if it is fixed into something solid. Every rail here goes into brick, a stud or reinforced backing. Never bare plasterboard, because that pulls out exactly when someone needs it.

Where should grab rails go?
The three places falls happen most: beside the toilet and in the shower, at the front step, and on the stairs. A second bannister on the open side of a staircase is one of the most effective changes you can make.
Will the rail actually hold someone's weight?
Only if it is fixed into something solid. Every rail here goes into brick, a stud or reinforced backing, never into bare plasterboard. A rail screwed into plasterboard holds right up until the moment someone needs it.
