What the job involves

A door that sticks or will not latch annoys you every day. A lock that needs jiggling is a lock that is starting to fail. These are quick jobs with the right tools.

Doors get hung, eased and adjusted so they close properly. Locks get changed after a house move or lost keys. Key safes get bolted into solid wall so carers and family can get in without a key under the mat.

Enhanced DBS checked

NW Handyman holds an Enhanced DBS certificate, the highest level of criminal record check in England and Wales. It is the same check used for people who work with vulnerable adults in care homes and hospitals. The certificate can be shown on request.

Labour is £30 per hour for anything not listed. These are starting prices. You get a firm price before any work starts.

Common questions

I have moved house. Should I change the locks?

It is worth doing. You have no way of knowing how many keys are out there from previous owners or tradespeople.

My door will not close properly. Can that be fixed?

Usually yes. Doors drop, swell and stick over time. Easing, rehanging or new hinges normally sorts it, from £50.

What is a key safe for?

It holds a spare key in a locked box fixed to the wall, so carers or family can get in without a key being left under a mat. They are fitted into solid masonry, not just render.
